I’ve designed and made clothing since my mom and grandmother gave me my first sewing machine on my twelfth birthday. I’ve worked in the wholesale and retail fashion industries; I’ve modeled as well as produced fashion shows and spent 14 years of my fashion career in fashion education. I’ve been an online retailer for six years and now feel compelled to write about fashion as well. So you see, I live and breathe fashion.
Always in the back of my mind; I’ve had the idea of having a little boutique someday. And in it; I always thought that I would sell the latest, most trendy apparel and accessories. I dreamed of a space where I could educate and entertain my clients on everything fashionable. My boutique would be more like a club, a refuge for my clients whether they were in the mood for purchasing something on a given day or not; a place to hang out, learn and unwind.
I still feel the same about the ‘club/hangout space’ idea. That space is now virtual with this blog. But as time passed; I found myself thinking somewhat differently about fashion. I now think that there are only so many ways that one can devise to drape the human body; the best and most of which, in my opinion, have already been created. Trendy and expensive high fashion has its place; and of course, I still love it. And if we are good stewards, those divine and pricey pieces will be tomorrow’s treasured vintage finds.
Now, I wouldn’t say that I’m the tree-hugging type of earth-conscious person, but I do feel that frivolous fashion shopping and mindless consumption is just wrong for today’s thoughtful person.
So I set out on a mission to save the planet by rummaging through my closet and those of my family and friends as well as shopping myself silly in local thrift stores, resale shops, garage and yard sales to create a collection of vintage fashion apparel and accessories to share with like-minded souls. “It’s About Time” that I take this show on the road… that road led me to the creation of Leta’s Vintage and Leta’s Vintage Musings.
