After receiving a formal education in design at Parsons The New School for Design, he first did freelance work in the garment industry. Next he became Women’s Design Director for Anne Klein. Later he worked for Calvin Klein’s women’s collection and did stints as Design Director at TSE and Cerruti. In 1997 he launched his own ready-to-wear label.
