These bright, clear colors make us happy as we look forward to the promise of rebirth that the spring season brings. They can be worn alone or mixed with complimentary hues. We can wear them head to toe as an entire monochromatic outfit or in small doses as in an accessory like a hat, scarf or piece of costume jewelry. They can also be most fun when mixed in a delightful print – be it floral, geometric, abstract or my personal favorite – stripes.
Seasonal Colors:
Spring colors are ‘seasonal colors’ just like those for summer, fall and winter. All four groups of seasonal colors mimic those found in nature – especially in this case, the hues from spring flowers and fruits. Examples of spring colors are soft pastels, basically any pale but clear shade of blue, green, pink, lavender, orange and yellow. I like to focus on colors based on a theme because it’s easy to remember. Let’s use spring fruits this time. Think kiwi green, kumquat orange, strawberry red (we’ll get to pink in a moment) and lemon yellow.
I bet you’re wondering why I chose strawberry to represent pink, huh? Well think about this – most fruits are one predominant color on the outside and a lighter shade of the same color on the inside. Or sometimes a completely different color altogether or even multi-colored once cut in half. And pink IS light red, right?
However you decide to usher in spring, take your color cues from nature and you can’t go wrong. Wear your vintage favorites with panache and a splash of delicious spring color. Do it because it will make you feel better and you’ll look good enough to eat! For inspiration take a look at the photos in this post, of spring fruits that I’ve paired with items from Leta’s Vintage.
